One of the interesting things about traveling, is that you can come across unexpected situations all the time, which may put you in a tricky situation. I have put together a list of my best travel day tips to help you sort out some of those “is part of the trip” unexpected and sometimes annoying situations. Check it out before traveling!
- Always have cash with you, and, if possible, in local currency. Many countries still require cash for basic transactions and you do not want to get stuck in a place just because you don’t have a few dollars with you to pay for the taxi.
- Make sure that your credit card can be used abroad. Some banks may block your credit card if you do not notify them in advance of your trip.
- Check you have the correct electrical adapter. You may need to charge your phone or PC urgently, and the last thing you want is to realize that your charger does not work.
- Write down in a paper the name and contact details of the hotel you are staying in, and how to get there by public transport. You do not want to run out of battery without knowing where to go and how to do it.
- Always be on time at the airport. There may be an accident, additional security controls, any emergency, or simply the airport is so big that to go from one terminal to the other, it may take you longer than expected.
- If possible, try to take a little bit of the local currency with you in case of emergencies.
- Always use Booking.com or Trip Advisor to check the rating and comments about the place you are going to stay in. People are usually honest and they will tell you what is good and what is not.
- Choose a place near the center or with good public transportation available. Unless you are in an all-inclusive resort by the beach, you may not want to spend 1 hour and a lot of money going back and forward from your hotel to the center.
- Sort out your internet connection. There are a few providers that have amazing rates like Three in the UK (I have a specific post about it). Otherwise, you can try and buy a local sim card with data.
- Please double-check the documents and requirements you need to go to your final destination.
- Always take a handbag with you. It has happened to me that the airline ask me to check in my hand luggage, and I do not have where to put the things that I need to take with me such as my PC, wallet, etc.
